Earlier this year, Gov. John Kasich signed into law a bill designating an annual Ohio Internship and Co-Op Appreciation Day.
“The idea is to celebrate and raise awareness of the value of internship and co-op opportunities in our state and to promote the creation of more internship and co-op programs at businesses throughout the state,” said State Sen. Bill Beagle, chair of the Senate Workforce and Economic Development Committee.
Sean Creighton, president of the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education, added: “Internships are a high impact practice in education and are proven to increase student retention and completion. Internships give students an opportunity to develop skills that they would not otherwise acquire in the classroom, therefore increasing a student’s competitive advantage in the job market after graduation, and often keeping them locally employed.”
